Caffeinated soap

February 3, 2005 at 5:34 am (Soaping and Knitting)

Someone mentioned this in a blog post, and it fits in with a couple of the soapers' discussion lists/boards topics too. I even know where I can get the caffeine.

The questions I have are:

  • Would you really buy caffeinated soap?
  • If you make soap, would you really make caffeinated soap?
  • If you were going to buy it, what scent would you want? Coffee? Citrus? Refreshing Mint? (I'm thinking either Peppermint, Japanese Mint or a mix with Spearmint added) Or do you have a better idea?
  • Anhydrous caffeine is not a cheap ingredient–how much over my $4/bar (three for $11) price would you go to get caffeine in your morning shower?

Now, for your question–whyinhell would someone even consider caffeine as a soap ingredient?

  • Even tho people do not absorb large amounts of anything in a soap, they can still get a small amount thru the contact, especially if they leave it on a little bit before rinsing off.
  • Caffeine (in leave-on products like lotion) are thought (some say it's scientifically proven but I need to do the legwork before accepting that it's been studied) to reduce swelling, cellulite, wrinkle appearance and is thought to improve overall skin tone.
  • People would think up caffeinated soap for the same reason they thought up Penguin Mints: we caffeine addicts will always seek fun, new, exciting and unique ways of getting our fixes.

OK, let me have it. I really do want to know if I should consider messing with this one.
